Swanston Community Center - 2350 Northrop Ave., Carmichael CA  95825 [Part of the Mission Oaks Recreation and Parks District]. (916) 333-6464. The center offers a variety of classes, including Craigslist & Ebay; Facebook & Social Media; Digital Camera to Computer and others on Fridays from 9-11 AM. Price = $10 per class/$25 for three.


Sacramento Public Library - Various branches of the Sacramento Public Library offer computer classes on a regular basis. Refer to the library’s website: select “events” from the main page and then “computer class” from the pull down menu to identify these classes.


Cordova Recreation and Park District - All classes are held at the new computer lab at Riverview Community Center, Room 8, 10700 Ambassador Drive, Rancho Cordova, (916) 362-1841. Classes include Internet/Email, Craigs List/E-Bay, Facebook/Twitter, Web Page Design, Keyboarding/Typing, Introduction to Computers, Beyond the Basics, Microsoft Office (Word ‘07, Excel ‘07, Powerpoint ‘07), Introduction to Windows 7. Prices are $32-$42 each


Learning Exchange - (916) 929-9200

A variety of classes are offered at various locations. Prices are lower if you are a member. Courses include Facebook, Twitter & LinkedIn for Beginners; Blogging; eBay: The Basics of Selliing; Create a Website; and most of the Microsoft Office courses for 2003, 2007 or 2010 in Levels 1,2 and 3; plus more. Prices are $49 - $99 per course with some courses requiring a materials fee.

- Computer Tips Clinic - 12 to 12:45 p.m., Shares information on various aspects of computer usage. The topics are generally basic in nature but would be valuable to all levels of computer expertise.

- Apple Mobile Devices Users' Group-iPad, iPod, iPhone - 12 to 12:45 p.m., shares information of interest, such as apps, users' tips, the differences between the devices, etc. At times, Apple experts will present topics of interest and answer questions from the group. Bring your devices and your questions. The drop-in discussions will also be beneficial to those who want to learn more about the iPad's many functions before deciding whether to purchase one.

(Open University allows you to attend regular University classes through the College of Continuing Education, on a space available basis, without being admitting to the University. Fees exceed the other two programs but are far cheaper for auditing a class versus taking one for credit. Only 24 units are allowed through this program toward a baccalaureate degree.)
